The lovely Mrs S’s insulation mission

The Customers

Mrs S called us and mentioned that she had no idea what she needed in her loft but she wanted to make better use of it and was feeling that her house was too cold and needed better insulation. Herself and her daughter wanted to ensure that they felt safe entering the loft and could move around easily.

The Job

Once Des had surveyed the loft space it was clear that Mrs S needed more earthwool insulation, breathable membrane, her poorly fitted boarding removed and refitted and a new loft ladder with some grab rails. The team got to work a week or so later, this only took a day- mostly because Mr S looked after the team so well (lots of coffees and biscuits). The boarding was replaced on 4x2 timber so a thicker layer of earthwool insulation could be laid underneath. The area which was not boarded also had 100mm insulation fitted. To add another level of loft insulation the team then fitted the breathable membrane which helps to keep the warm air in, but does not cause any damp. Finally the team fitted a lovely new 3 section ladder with two rails and 3 hand rails inside the loft to ensure that Mrs S felt comfortable entering and coming down from the loft.
